How did people go to the bathroom in Medieval times?

**Some nobles went in the woods…this was the proper thing to do

**History tells us others were more crude:

Some kings went wherever he happened to be when nature called

Some noblewomen may just go in mid-conversation

**Facilities existed in certain places:

Large blocks of concrete provided privacy and motes outside of the castle

Peasants had a bowl, in which they emptied in a town hole

**In town:

Toss your matter out of the window; "watch out below"

Eventually cities hired clean-up crews to dispose of the waste

Myths Expelled

Every man did not where tights

The Church played a huge part in people's life: it was becoming very corrupt at the time

Believed disease came from sins of the soul

Used potions to heal the sick; surgery was last result

Children's Crusades--While fathers were off fighting in the Crusades,2 young men from different areas of Europe gathered 1000s of other kids to go fight the Muslims. They never made it because they froze to death, fell off mountains, starved, disappeared, drowned, or suffered disease. If the kids survived all of that, they were captured and sold into slavery or killed, when they refused to convert to Islam! Of over 9,000 kids, only 100-200 were ever seen again! Lesson to children: Stay home and let the adults tend to the wars!!

Robin Hood--Little evidence suggests that Robin Hood really existed. Some people believe a man named William DeVane was Robin but again, no one knows for sure. Most historians believe Robin was just a legend in a song of the time and tales have grown.
