Mid-term Essay Prompt: 2007-2008
United States History

Debates regarding slavery occurred prior to the United States of America becoming a nation and until its abolishment with the 13th amendment. For your mid-term essay, describe and explain three compromises in the debate over the legality of slavery between the years 1788 – 1860.

You will write an outline, similar to the following:

1. Intro---3 sentences (For, Against, Thesis)
2. Body—3 paragraphs (examples)
a. What was the compromise?
b. Who was involved?
c. What was the outcome?
3. Conclusion---What does all of this bode for the future?

Then, you will write a 5-paragraph essay (in class), using your outline, to complete the assignment.

Rubric: You must print this rubric and bring it with you to class on Thursday, along with your outline!!!!!
